Why I no longer push on through
Whenever my body yearns for a work break, I hear a voice in my head:
Come on! Pull up your boot straps!
If you don’t keep going, you’re lazy.
You can just push on through.
Everyone will shame & judge you if you take a break!!!
This voice is the result of living in a capitalist society – a society that honors burning the midnight oil even though working long hours is “more dangerous than other occupational hazards.”
I’ve been running my business since 2016 & I still have to negotiate with that voice in my head.
Only after identifying that I am not that voice, & instead I value radical rest, am I able to implement practices that support my body rather than uphold capitalist ideals.
I’m not broken & I do not need to be fixed.
You are not broken & you do not need to be fixed.
We are not broken & we do not need to be fixed.
The system is a broken system. The system is what needs to be fixed.
There is another way.
