How does your garden grow?

When gardening we're not growing the plants; we’re actually growing the soil.

Adding nutrients, combining organic matter, & increasing the amount of beneficial organisms are all ways to grow your soil.

If you want healthy plants, you've gotta make sure you have nourishing soil.

When I first heard my coach & mentor, Andrea Leda, speak of "Roots to Fruits," I immediately thought of how it relates to growing garden soil.

The Roots to Fruits metaphor supports us in understanding the root cause to the outcomes in our life.

The "fruit" is the outcome, the thing that is actually happening. The "root" is what feeds the outcome, the why.

So if you want healthy fruits in your life, you need nourishing roots.

Let's say you want to create a daily meditation practice & you've tried to start this practice over & over again with no luck.

You reach out for support (aka Google) & find lots of advice:

  • Use this guided meditation for beginners!

  • Just sit for 3 minutes a day!

  • Buy this meditation pillow!

All great suggestions, sure, but what happens when you've already tried them & you still don't have the daily practice you are seeking?

Then I invite you to look at your roots.

To look at your roots, ask questions that explore what might be preventing you from growing the meditation practice you desire. Questions like:

  • When you were little, what did the adults in your life say about people who meditate or who were spiritual?

  • Do you believe you are worthy of 3 minutes a day "doing nothing"?

  • If you were to identify as "someone who meditates" what about the current You would need to change?

When we look at our roots, we create awareness.

“Awareness is like the sun. When it shines on things, they are transformed.” Thich Nhat Hanh

Awareness supports us ing making the change we desire.

Do you have a goal that you've had for a long time, maybe even years?

What happens when you look at that goal through the lens of roots to fruits?

Grab your journal & set a timer for 3 minutes per prompt. (Create more prompts by referencing the questions above.)

  • What about this goal scares me?

  • If I accomplish this goal, who will I become?

Don't forget: This "work" is actually play.

Whatever you discover when you look at your roots, remember: You are not broken & you do not need to be fixed.

This play is about cultivating deeper awareness of Self & discovering the magnificent choice we have in this life.

Enjoy the exploration, Dear Ones.
