Reclaiming Ritual

At first I called them the Full Moon Gatherings, then Full Moon Circle. At last, I've named them the Full Moon Rituals.

Using the word ritual is a very deliberate choice, one that took me 5 years to feel empowered to do so.

For me the word ritual brings to mind images of witches, candle fire, sigils, & intentional action - images that delight me.

At the same time, these images can evoke fear, distrust, & revulsion due to our patriarchal history of burning witches at the stake. (When really the killing of "witches" was from the fear of womxn holding power as herbalists, midwives, & land owners.)

I use ritual as a way to intentionally reclaim the word. To unlearn what the patriarchy taught me. To be transparent about my witchy-ness. To honor those who were unable, & still unable, to live their truth out loud.

When you explore the word ritual, what do you think about?

What do you want ritual to represent in YOUR life?
