Aligning with the Moon

The Moon has gifted us a beautiful framework to integrate cycles of change into our lives.

When we align our actions with the Lunar Phases, we deepen our relationship with ourself & with the rhythms of Nature.

The New Moon is the beginning of the Moon cycle & the perfect time to start a personal project.

To track your process, you can use the Lunar Phases as a circular path with mileposts along the way.

What personal project do you want to explore for the next month?

The Moon cycles through 8 phases in 29.5 days. The Moon cycle is fluid & ever present. So are you.

For this practice, we'll work with 4 of the 8 Lunar Phases:

  • New Moon

  • First Quarter

  • Full Moon

  • Third Quarter aka Last Quarter

The 4 primary phases of the Moon serve as reminders to pause, check in with yourself, & observe the process of your personal project.

New Moon

New Moon is the beginning of the cycle.

Identify your intention: What will you commit to this Moon cycle?

First Quarter

First quarter is about action & making it happen.

Look for the Moon in the afternoon sky. Use the waxing energy to keep you motivated.

Full Moon

Celebrate how far you've come!

Use the brightness of the Moon to reflect on how best to support your personal project.

What needs to be transformed? What energy must you embody?

Last Quarter

The cycle is nearing completion.

What will you leave behind? What will you bring into the next cycle?

I've worked with the energies & phases of the Moon for over a decade & I continue to be humbled by the Moon's teachings.

To learn more about why we see phases of the Moon, check out this excellent Norwegian website. There is so much info! I also use their website for identifying Moonrise, Moonset, & Moon Phases for my local area.

If you use Google Calendar, you can add a "Phases of the Moon" calendar that notes the 4 primary Lunar Phases in your time zone. While on your desktop version of Google Calendar:

  • On the left of the screen next to "Other calendars," click the +

  • Browse calendars of interest

  • Scroll down for “Phases of the Moon”

For a daily Moon practice tool, I recommend the Many Moons Lunar Planner created by Sarah Faith Gottesdeiner.
